Pfluger blushed. “Dang ol’ guilty as charged there, ma’am—ain’t even gonna argue it, tell ya what. Heard you was from Katy, that right?”
Helena was surprised. “Yes. How’d you know?”
"Man, I heard ya talkin’ to your CO earlier, got that soft kinda 'how’s-yo-mama-nem' voice, know what I’m sayin’? That Katy sweet tea tone, man, real gentle like. Ain’t no mistakin’ it,” Pfluger replied.

“Dang right. Spent summers haulin’ hay, fixin’ fence, dodgin’ copperheads, and losin’ bets to my cousin Ricky, man, every time.”
“In Katy, we had flooding, mesquite barbecue, and too many cousins to keep track of,” Helena said, reminiscing of home.
