In the world I am building, the Ivory Oasis is a very sacred place that only highly distinguished individuals may normally enter. However, there is one famous exception to this rule. All orphaned children throughout the Fourteen Deserts are not only allowed entry to the Ivory Oasis, but are encouraged to make their home there. The King-Under-the-Black-Star is known for his sympathy for children. They are raised, fed, and educated by the Priesthood of the Ivory Oasis until they come of age. At this point they may choose to join the Priesthood, but even if they refuse they may still live within the Ivory Oasis in one of the Seven Villages, just across the lake from the city of Irem. No child is denied a home in all of the Fourteen Deserts.
