Poseidon was among the twelve Olympian gods in ancient Greek mythology and worship. He was the god of the sea, rivers, earthquakes, and horses. He was the brother of Zeus and Hades and the son of Cronus and Rhea. According to myth, Poseidon took control of the sea when the three brothers divided the world.
