So I did a lot of experimenting last night, and I found that while XL Lightning does have a fairly good idea about what the style of certain Japanese artists are, it had a lot of trouble consistently translating that style, at least when it came of Western comic book characters. Many times, it would appear to produce outputs more in line with your typical Western style art rather than of that particular Japanese artist.
So I went and experimented further to see what the results would be under Blue Pencil and Virtual Utopia - engines designed specifically for anime art - and not only did it produce better results, they appear to have a better grasp of the artists' styles.
So while it might be a bit more expensive, I think I'm going to try having the Japanese interpretation of Western comic characters be run through these two engines rather than XL Lightning. I may also likewise try running the Western interpretation of Japanese Manga characters through another checkpoint.
