Sculpture moderniste inspirée par Jewad Selim_037

This sculpture is inspired by Jawad Selim, an Iranian painter and sculptor born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1919 to a father who was an amateur artist in the military and a mother who was an accomplished embroiderer. He came to Paris in 1938 to study sculpture, but his studies were interrupted by World War II. He tried again in Rome, but the same problem prevented him from studying, and he moved to Baghdad. After the war, he finally enrolled at the Slade School in London and was influenced by leading Western artists of the time, such as Picasso and Henry Moore.

During periods when Selim was not studying, he was employed as the director of antiquities in Baghdad from 1940 to 1945 and later headed the sculpture department at the city's Institute of Fine Arts, a position he held until his death in 1961.
