Leo and Diane Dillon

Artist couple Leo Dillon (1933 – 2012) and Diane Dillon (née Sorber; 1933 – ) were illustrators from the USA, known for their distinctive and versatile art style. Their work, often compared to wood-block prints, is characterised by rough, sometimes semi-abstract shapes powerfully assembled. They employed a variety of styles and media, including an Art Nouveau-derived ambience reminiscent of Gustav Klimt. Their techniques included pastels, coloured pencil, watercolour, acrylic, stencils, typography, woodcut, pochoir, found-object assemblage, collage, and sculpture. They referred to their collaborative work as the creation of "the third artist", a testament to their seamless artistic partnership. Their work spans across various genres, including children’s books, adult paperback books and magazine covers.
