The dictionary definition of a starscraper is any commercial or residential property exceeding 1 km in height - or 0.6 miles for us backwards Americans. With the tallest starscrapers pushing past the heady 2 km mark, the time it would take to descend to the ground becomes a significant part of the total length of commenting time, being that autonomous cars move at over a hundred MPH and hyper loops up to 800 MPH, but elevator cars are limited to a few tens of meters per second to prevent discomfort to the human physiology.

Consequently, VTOL drones are all the rage with the wealthy residents of these enormous structures. It would be the very rare domicile above even half a km to lack a VTOL parked on the balcony. As a bonus it provides one more way for the ultra-rich to conspicuously consume; with Old World auto concerns entering the market you can get your VTOL emblazoned with Mercedes or BMW heraldry (recall corporations are people and so can hold noble titles).
