Patrick Heron

Patrick Heron (1920 – 1999) was a British abstract and figurative artist, critic, writer, and polemicist. He was recognised as one of the leading painters of his generation, associated with Abstract Expressionism and Colour Field painting. Heron was initially trained as a writer but later pursued a career in art. He made a significant contribution to the dissemination of modernist ideas of painting. He is renowned for his vibrant and geometric abstract paintings that explore the interplay of colour and form. Heron's work often features bold, flat areas of colour arranged in dynamic compositions, influenced by his interest in the relationship between light, space, and perception. He is known for both his early figurative work and non-figurative works, which over the years looked to explore further the idea of making all areas of the painting of equal importance. He experimented with various mediums, including painting, printmaking, and textile design.
