The dome, at night, remembering

Teal light at the base of the dome, a green laser climbing through the star trails — a working night at a great observatory. This frame is from my film "The Sky Is Getting a Memory," about the archives we are building above the Earth: survey telescopes that photograph the whole sky every few nights until change itself becomes impossible to miss. A dome like this one doesn't just look at the universe. It remembers it, on our behalf, in the cold, all night.
