From the writings of Hyresu, Paladin of Mahtma
Most believe the Ganeh'ilum, the Forest Shadows, are fanciful stories cooked up by hunters drunk on grain alcohol and jumping scared of the dark and what rustles in the foliage, but they're very real, very reclusive and quite protective of their reclucivity.
I was tracking a criminal and defiler, Zoszas the Skull Mantle, and his band of marauders. They'd been using the Wilderun to evade capture, roughing it in the woods, laying low between raids. I eventually found their camp.. and my quarry, they were hanging by their heels from the trees, bereft of their heads.
I felt a blade at my back, that was when I met Laeruen. Eventually we'd become friends. He doesn't say much or smile easily, but he's an amazing tracker, he moves like a predator, but protects the forest like a brother. His people are few, but formidable.
