Brightjack

Brightjacks emerge in dreams of those who crave adventure. They speak in rehearsed lines — “Don’t worry, I’ll save you!” — with eerie sincerity. They are harmless at first, driven by a childlike need to do good. Yet, their understanding of heroism is fractured. They might “save” someone by dragging them from their bed into the forest to “defeat imaginary monsters.” Brightjacks are fueled by admiration — when cheered for, their eyes glow brighter, and their movements become more confident. When ignored, they wilt, muttering half-finished speeches to the empty air.
