this is a relatively well-researched area, the picture ofc has a lovely design, fundamentally there are two aspects.. something extremely saline + the external moisture.
as long as there is a decent amount of humidity it works.
in the desert as suggested it'd take a bit more work, but lately scientists have been able to do it with "hydrogels"
it extracts it from ambient air

This is a good reminder that more needs to be done, but the fact is countries, governments, charities, organizations, churches, private groups, individuals, etc., have been reaching out for years in bringing clean safe water, globally to all in need. Yes, more needs to be done and one answer is to teach. There are areas that have created pipelines, water wells and filter systems while teaching the people in these areas to help maintain the clean water flow and hopefully keeping these water systems from being sabotaged. However, there's also the threatening groups who confiscate survival food and water supplies being shipped to the less fortunate. Even stockpiles of bottled water have been found hoarded back from the people in need and suffering. There will be a day of accountability and restitution, but for many it will be too late and has been to late, for too long. Thank you for the reminder and may all have what many take for granted....clean water. Godspeed to all in need~
