In 48 BC, Julius Caesar and his army invaded and conquered Egypt. After defeating the Egyptian forces, Caesar set fire to the Egyptian fleet docked at the harbor of Alexandria. The fire quickly spread to the nearby Royal Library of Alexandria, and soon the entire museum was engulfed in flames. The loss of the library was a devastating blow to the history of knowledge, as it contained an estimated 700,000 scrolls, many of which were irreplaceable.

Alexandria’s Great Library used to be the largest in the world. It was filled with over a million books and scrolls from all over the world, including Greece, Assyria, Egypt, Persia, and India. The building was completely destroyed in a fire that occurred around 2000 years ago. This massive library was the most significant in ancient history. At its peak, it housed more than 700,000 books as well as papyrus scrolls.
