Where I grew up, one of the cryptids(myths) of the area was the thunderbird. Hotels and many other things were named, thunderbird. A couple times I saw birds that were clearly bigger than the norm. Once a bird flew across the road in front of me, and its wings were bigger than the car in front if us. Seemed like it was 20 feet long.
But the neatest was a huge raven that I saw almost once a day. The others were a fraction of her size. From what we figured, she probably stood 4 feet tall. Much like that old photo of a raven some hunters got.
The top of every tall fur tree on that island was bent.
