In 1992, a container of bath toys, including rubber ducks, fell into the Pacific Ocean and drifted to different continents over the years. The rubber ducks followed a clockwise path in the Northern Hemisphere and a counterclockwise path in the Southern Hemisphere, due to the Coriolis effect. This experiment is known as Rubber Duck Ocean Current . The experiment has helped scientists to understand the complexity of ocean currents that distribute oxygen, nutrients, and heat around the planet.
