**Part 1.** Of course, in his first 10 years, Finni sometimes found that there were people who didn't like him. Until then, however, he had always had a very harmonious relationship with most of the people around him. This suddenly changed in the summer of 1990 when Finni moved from elementary school to grammar school. There are, of course, many reasons for this. The aim of this reflection is to identify the most important reasons. **Reason 1:** Two strange coincidences ensured that Finni was almost the only child in the new class who didn't know anyone. Finni had moved with his family to another suburb of his town in 1988. However, his parents made it possible for him to stay at his old elementary school by driving him there every day. The grammar school, on the other hand, was only a 15-minute walk from Finni's new home. 

**Part 2.** However, the grammar school did not divide the new classes according to where the children lived, but according to which elementary school the children came from. Finni was therefore not placed in a class with his friends from his neighborhood, but with children from his old home and other more distant suburbs of the city. According to this principle, Finni could now theoretically have met up with his friends from his old school class. However, a second coincidence prevented this: the grammar school was named after a socialist poet, which led to a major controversy in Finni's town when the school was founded in the more capitalist Germany. Among more conservative or neoliberal people, the school therefore had the reputation of also being a bad school - although it must be objectively said that the name of the school had no influence on the didactics and that there were certainly all political views among the school's teachers. 

**Part 3.** Finni's openly conservative primary school teacher, however, had a strong dislike of this grammar school and advised all parents not to send their child there. All the other children in the primary school class therefore did not go to this grammar school because of this recommendation. However, Finni's parents wanted to send Finni to this grammar school because of its proximity to their own home. As a result, most of the other children in the new class knew each other from elementary school, only Finni didn't know anyone and it was difficult for him to make contact at first, as the others had less need for contact due to existing friendships.

This is one of almost 100 Finni stories that I am publishing for NC. You can find the story in the comments. The project has been growing for a year and recounts moments from my life between 1979 and today – sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes exciting, sometimes reflective and philosophical, but always authentic and emotional.
