Deremend a fox- like centaur who runs the tavern, after a raid on the village found a crying human child on his way fleeing the panic, unfortunately at the survival camp the child named Sam found his parents didn't make it, crying into the flanks of Deremend fox body using his tail as a cover, he comforted the child till morning. The day after Sam refused to leave Deremend and fought any who tried to separate him from the fox, so Deremend caved and took the child in.
