Definition: A busker is a performer who entertains in public places such as streets, markets, railway stations, and town squares, usually in return for voluntary donations. Busking has ancient roots and has been practised across many cultures for centuries. Medieval Europe had travelling musicians, troubadours, jongleurs, and minstrels who earned their living through public performance, while similar traditions existed worldwide. Today, buskers may be musicians, singers, magicians, jugglers, living statues, or other entertainers. Successful busking combines artistic skill, audience engagement, and the ability to transform everyday public spaces into shared cultural experiences.
