Blade Runner (1982) and Soldier (aka Star Force Soldier) are taking place in the same film universe.
Both, replicant Roy Batty and military nurtured battle human Todd 3465 had been fighting at the Tannhäuser Gate, a space portal.
The characters at that fictional time where even closer in age than the actors already are.
As for continuity, no one could lose this fight, so they filmed a standoff battle with a cameo by Rutger Hauer.
However, test audiences loved the reference, but not the standoff. As both battle characters are exclusive survivers and Todd couldn't be left for dead repetiously.
So they reduced the Tannhäuser sequence into a single scene without Batty.
The reality behind this: This Tannhäuser scene, of which Batty tells in Blade Runner so famously, really features in Soldier. But the Rutger Hauer cameo wasn't filmed.
