"Everyone! May I present Aridian of the Eastern Kingdom."

As Calla's husband he swore that no harm would ever come to her, thus when Calla was killed in the hostile Kingdom of Orken, he demanded revenge. As the queen Nyathera, though it pained her, would not start another war between the two kingdoms. She and Aridian argued about what to do next, ending with Aridian enraged and swearing death to the people of Orken. 

He left the kingdom that very night. Nyathera knowing that he would act rashly, banished him. Aridian had no more ties to the kingdom and in his rage would not endanger them. Aridian found and exacted his revenge on the people who had killed his wife, but one let slip that it was ordered by the King of Orken. Blinded by pain and anger, he slaughtered all the inhabitants of Orken, not one survived.

He single-handedly destroyed an entire race of people and their civilization.
