**Leonora Carrington** (1917 –2011) was a British-born artist, best known for her contributions to the Surrealist movement. She spent most of her adult life in Mexico, becoming one of the last surviving participants of the 1930s Surrealist movement. Carrington’s work is characterised by haunting, autobiographical, and somewhat inscrutable paintings that incorporate images of sorcery, metamorphosis, alchemy, and the occult. The Surrealism style emphasises the power of the subconscious and dream-like scenarios in her work.
