-Mom!!! Kallikantzaroi!!!!

In Greece, folklore tells of the Kallikantzaroi, little Goblin-like mischievous creatures. Denizens of the Underworld, every year in the Christmas period they come up to the surface. They wreak havok with their pranks: They make a mess of christmas decorations, steal and eat christmas sweets, urinate on the ashes of the hearth etc. Their reign comes to an end at 6th January, The Epiphany. Then, priests go around in houses sprinkling Holy Water which is anathema to the Kallikantzaroi. They are forced to retreat to their underworld realm where new misfortunes await them: The World Tree, whose roots they hit with axes all year long until it's hanging by a thread, has been magically restored and so they are forced to start all over again!
