He ascended to the throne in 1174 at the age of 13. Despite suffering from leprosy, he demonstrated remarkable leadership during his reign and fought valiantly against the forces of Salah ad-Din (Saladin) during the Crusades. Baldwin IV passed away in 1185 at the young age of 24, leaving his sister Sibylla and her husband Guy of Lusignan to rule the kingdom. His reign remains an important chapter in the history of the Crusader states in the Holy Land.
