Well after the conquer (read: the ma$$acre) of the mesoamericans civilizations, the visual representation of Aztec deities became edulcorated by European tastes and desires: hence the appearence of fur and gems in Tlahuixcalpantecuhtli (one of the manifestations of Quetzalcoatl) images, absolutely not present in the real traditional imagery -- or the humanization of the god-serpent personificated even (!) by white females.
It is true that history is written by the conquerors.
