Sesshū Tōyō (1420–1506) was a Japanese Zen Buddhist monk and one of the most renowned ink painters in Japanese history. Influenced by Chinese Song and Yuan dynasty painting traditions, he developed a highly expressive and innovative style that balanced bold, dynamic brushwork with delicate, atmospheric washes.
