Marco's Chopper

Marco's bike was a bright yellow Raleigh Chopper. We all coveted it. Nobody I knew had ever seen anything like it before.

The fathers in the neighbourhood didn't favour Choppers. They warned about ape-hanger handlebars, silly little front wheels and three-speed gelding shifters. Everyone knew that wasn't the real reason. Even so, we'd concede grudging and grimacing that it might have been kind of a good one. I'm not sure I'd have been any more tempted than Marco to ride his the way I thrashed mine.
