This shapeless being is jealous because a lifeless rock called Earth slowly developed a thriving ecosystem, while it simply wandered around the planet. "Why shouldn't I have an ecosystem?" it thought to itself (the closest approximation, alien beings don't, can and never will speak human language). The creature touched down on Earth, and consumed a swath of organic matter to develop its own ecosystem. The results were disastrous to both us and it.
