My dearest Judith,

The memory of our time on the cruise is a warm ember I carry with me. The way you spoke of your life—the duty, the expectations—it felt like a beautiful bird describing its gilded cage.

This is not a demand, only a quiet offering. Should you ever find the courage to unlatch the door, know this: an invitation to my family’s estate in the snow-covered mountains of New Jersey remains, as open and patient as my heart. There is a silence here that speaks volumes, and a hearth that longs for your particular light.

Male *Xylocopa caffra* are a uniform greenish yellow colour, leading many to believe incorrectly they are a different species.

Whether females have double yellow, white or even orange bands is determined by environmental humidity during larval development, with lighter bands being associated with dryer conditions.

Females bore nesting holes in soft wood.  Although each hole is shallow, older nests are sometimes bored further for reuse, which can lead to structural damage to timber over time.
