I've never heard of anyone putting foil over the windows in a heatwave, but I can certainly understand the logic behind it.

Also, I didn't realize before that you are in England. I have family relatives based near Southend. I haven't been across the pond, myself, since the Summer of 2011, but I dream of making time to head back there someday, preferably sometime during the Premier League season.
