John carved a wave, spray exploding around him, feeling Savannah hot on his heels. "Think you can keep up, city girl?" he shouted, heart pounding with laughter and adrenaline.
Savannah grinned, popping up beside him. "Don't underestimate a Carolina girl," she yelled back, catching her own wave. They raced neck and neck, spray dancing between them.
Suddenly, a monstrous wave loomed. John whooped, diving deep as it crashed, emerging breathless, searching for Savannah.
There she was, tossed by the foam, a flash of blonde struggling. Without hesitation, John paddled towards her, reaching out just as she surfaced, gasping.
Their eyes met, the ocean roaring around them. In that shared breath, there were unspoken promises, a salty kiss waiting for the shore.
