Silas had seen many strange things in his years as a keeper of broken clocks... but invitations didn’t simply appear at midnight, nailed to doors no one dared to touch.
The Great Clocktower had been silent for decades, frozen at 11:59, ever since the last New Year’s Bell refused to ring. Time in this forgotten town had limped ever since... shadows grew longer, snow refused to melt, and whispers never fully stopped.
Yet tonight, a single card waited at the tower’s door.
NEW YEAR’S EVE BALL– ONE NIGHT ONLY
No date. No signature.
Just a seal pressed into the paper...a silver moth, wings spread wide.
Silas frowned. He knew that mark.
He also knew no one alive was supposed to use it.
He lifted his lantern. The gears above him trembled. Somewhere deep inside the tower, something old began to stir.
Time hadn’t stopped after all.
It had only been waiting.
