Amalek attacks Israel at Rephidim. Moses sends Joshua to lead the fighting men while he stands on top of the hill with the staff of God. When Moses holds up his hands, Israel prevails; when he lowers them, Amalek prevails. Aaron and Hur support his tired hands until sunset, and Joshua defeats Amalek.

Bible Verses: Exodus 17:11-12 (KJV)

And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands...

Bible Verses: Exodus 17:11-12 (NIV)

As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
