Jacques Villon

Jacques Villon (Émile Méry Frédéric Gaston Duchamp, Gaston Duchamp; 1875 – 1963) was a French painter and printmaker, a leading figure in the Cubism movement and the elder brother of artists Marcel, Raymond, and Suzanne Duchamp. His art style is characterised by the fragmentation of forms, the use of geometric abstraction, and a vibrant use of colour. Villon primarily used oil paints and lithography, creating works that explored the relationship between form, space, and colour. His work is associated with Cubism, contributing to the movement with his innovative approach to both painting and printmaking, and helping to bridge the gap between traditional fine art and modernist experimentation.
