307/ First-hand experience

The helping hands at the excavation site had been unspeakably kind to her. With the tiniest scraps of English they had picked up from their English masters overlooking the excavation, they tried to show her around and explain the wonders of their forefathers' ancient civilization. They seemed very proud (and rightly so!), but since she did not really understand what they were saying, she just smiled politely and nodded with an approving look on her face when they were presenting her yet another broken... thing.

All this talk began to tire her. She barely stifled a yawn, smiled and tried to excuse herself. One of the older locals took her by the hand and encouraged her to follow into the shade of the tomb's impressive entrance hall. He motioned her to sit down and made some gestures as if to warn her not to be out in the sun for too long. He then winked as if to assure her he would keep her state of being indisposed their little secret.

She thanked him kindly and yawned heartily.
