God, there were so many good indie 90's comics just like this when I was a kid!! Like SCUD or JTHM where it was super edgy but also layered in this depraved melancholic nuance. I think that was the first generation of comic makers that knew humanity could never make a utopia. So much sci-fi before 90's indie comics sci-fi was obsessed with creating a utopia in the wake of WW2 but those 90's guys were like "Nah, my dad drank himself to death in-between angry fits of hitting me, utopia just isn't ever happening."
