I almost felt sorry for the thing when I first encountered it, which perhaps says more about me than about the creature itself. Muffle behaves as though the entire world has already decided against it and reacts to even harmless gestures with immediate retreat or suspicion. It watches strangers from behind furniture, roots, or ruined walls, judging intent with surprising speed despite understanding very little of what it observes. Oddly enough, it will quietly return misplaced belongings to camps or homes during the night, leaving them where they can easily be found before vanishing again without waiting for thanks or acknowledgment.
