“We’ve been partners for fourteen years,” Aspasia purred. “I know what you want.”

Cate growled. “You want it.”

“Well, yes. But we’re a team. If one eats, we both enjoy it. And technically, I can make you do it.”

Cate froze mid-air. “If I give in, you’re running the 5K tomorrow.”

“Darling,” Aspasia said, positively beaming in her head, “we have a deal.”

Cate collapsed onto the mat in silent defeat.


Ten push-ups in, Cate was sweating. Not from exertion, though the RAAF fitness test was no joke, but from the psychological warfare playing out five feet in front of her.
