The Hermit stands at the summit of the mountain, upon the heights of abstract thought, which represent as much of the spirit as we are able to recognize in our physical bodies.
The Hermit represents the eternal urge to manifest, evolve, to change, to exhibit variety. The thing in us which makes us want to climb back up to our Source is the Light streaming down from the Lantern. The Lantern symbolizes the Higher Self, or the Soul.
The state of consciousness designated by the Hermit, "The Intelligence of Will", is said to be the state of blissful unity with the Father.
