John Maynard selbst kann sich nicht mehr retten. Er geht mit dem Schiff unter und stirbt als Held.
Ein Denkmal in Buffalo ehrt John Maynards Heldentat. Sein Name wird als Symbol für Mut und Opferbereitschaft weiterleben.
