After discovering that Fenrir will be destined to kill Odin at Ragnarök, Odin is obsessed to change his fate.
He takes in Fenrir and tries to chain him up to captivity, hoping this will prevent Ragnarök, therefore his own death.
The Gods try to chain Fenrir up, but Fenrir breaks free easily on all occasions, almost as a game.
Odin seeks the dwarves, orders them into making a binding so strong, it will contain the might of Fenrir.
The Dwarves make a binding called Gleipnir, made out of the sounds of the footsteps of a cat, beard of a woman, roots of a mountain, sinews of a bear, breath of a fish, the spittle of a bird. This magical binding will be strong enough to bind Fenrir.
Suspicious of the binding, Fenrir demands one of the Gods to put his hand in his mouth while they bind him. Tyr agrees and does what is asked.
After trying to break free of this binding, Fenrir realizes he is tricked and bites off Tyr’s hand..
