To the modern man, the toll of killing that many blackbirds daily is unfathomable.

The nursery rhyme does say the blackbirds were baked into a pie but it also says when the pie was opened, the birds began to sing and a blackbird came down and snipped off a maid's nose. They probably relied on the same trained blackbirds so no need to keep bringing in more ...except to replace the one who snipped off the maid's nose. That one was likely deep-fried. 😁

They are beyond saving.

I’m really surprised by your delightful creation, because we still do it this way – tradition calls for it!!! I’ve just had 12 blackbirds with giblets; the rest will be served for dessert...🍴🍺

This was not at all influenced by my watching House of the Dragon or any of that. My mind is creative, idiosyncratic, and uninfluenced by such things. It's part of the reason you're drawn to me.
