“It’s a little joke amongst my order. In the 1500’s there was a Carmelite nun, Teresa of Avila, who helped reform the Order. As an outward symbol of her reform, she and her followers did not wear shoes. They became known as the Discalced Carmelites, and eventually they broke away from my Order, which became known as the Ancient Observance, or as a bit of a joke, the Calced Carmelites,” Helena explained as she sat and took off her boots and socks. Tyra didn’t totally understand the joke but nodded to be polite. Once Helena was ready, she let Tyra know. 

“You won’t feel a thing, love,” Tyra said as she brought the scanning software up on her laptop and pulled out a white tear drop shaped stone. Helena immediately recognized it as an Asgard Medical Scanner. 

“Right. Now, arms out.” Helena did as she was told. Tyra ran the scanner over and around Helena’s body for several minutes. Then she put it down as a beep was heard from the laptop.

“Alright. You can put your arms down now,” Tyra said. “And you can sit,” Helena did so. 
“I’m going to take a blood sample. Let me see your left arm,” Helena put out her arm as Tyra prepared a syringe and vial. Once she ready Tyra took Helena's blood and prepared it for the centrifuge. 

“MacGregor to *Fraiser*. Dr. Habibi come in, please.” 


“Habibi here,” said a Persian male voice. 
“I'm requesting a blood vial be beamed up to the ship. I would like it analyzed for Naquadah content.”

“Stand by,” Dr. Habibi said. A moment passed and he spoke again. “Go ahead and tag it." Tyra pulled out a small Tile from her bag and tagged the vial.

“Ready,” said Tyra.

“Beaming now,” replied Dr. Habibi. White light enveloped the vial, and it was beamed up to the ship. 

“I have the vial. Running it through the centrifuge now. Should have the results back to you shortly.”

“Sounds good. I await them.” Tyra turned to Sister Helena. “You can put your boots back on, Sister.” The Carmelite sat down and put her socks and boots on. 

“My sis tells me you just came on board the SGC,” said Tyra. 

“Y... Yes,” Helena replied, “Just last week.”


“Alright, Sister, let’s start with a simple Bioscan. Go ahead and take off your jacket,” Tyra said. The Carmelite did so.

“Shall I take off anything else?” Helena asked.
“Nah. The Bioscan is non-invasive and can work through clothing. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot. The BioScan’s been having trouble with our boots recently. Can you take them off?” 

“I can,” Helena replied. “I’ll be your discalced Calced Carmelite.” 

“Say what?” exclaimed Tyra.
