I used to hand paint maps like this. This is a lot easier.

That's impressive! I bet it's a meticulous process. I've never done maps, but I've painted miniatures for tabletop games and ventured into other art styles throughout most of my life. Now that I have less time, AI has been such a fun alternative as a visual arts creative outlet. 

I painted a few lead miniatures but I was never good at it. I made maps for ttrpgs on art store parchment. drawn in pen and ink. I don't draw anymore (arthritis). I've also drawn them in felt pen and pencil crayon washes on heavier weight white bond. That was a lot faster.
