After the banquet, the beginning of the night gave the inhabitants of the Rock a spectacle that almost never happened: in the air made terse by the rain, the red of the sunset lingered well beyond the moment when the sun had vanished off the horizon.

To the general amazement -- even of those who had seen such things before -- the early hours of the evening were tinged with carmine and vermilion, matching the fires of the grills. The young and the youngest continued to dive into what had become akin to a pool of magma, as slowly the noises of the party fell silent and the people, happy and satiated, returned to their homes clinging to the cliff.
