More a dialect than a tongue of its own, Riddlish can be spoken within any other language—and many languages are spoken in Wonderland, including CSL (Chessboard Sign Language), English, German, Danish, Quadling, Avalonian, High Rodentic, Gryphonese, Mer-Gilonian, Haumean, Sednese, and the Black Speech of Mordor. Anyone planning to visit Wonderland should learn a bit of Riddlish, and Ms. Madeline Hatter has written a very helpful beginner’s guide, titled “Tempo 40.” A shorter guide would be this: break apart the sentence you wish to communicate, find synonyms or homonyms for each individual word, and put the sentence back together. For example, “Q loves Lemony” becomes “Almost R idolatries like citrus fruit.” Make sense? No? Well, that can’t be helped, I suppose.
