For a moment Tyra didn’t say anything. She had read plenty of personal files in her career, but this one stood out.
“What made you do it?” Tyra finally asked.
Helena considered the question carefully before answering. “I suppose the simplest answer is that God asked.”
Tyra let out a quiet breath through her nose. “That’s a pretty big career change for a conversation with God.”
Helena chuckled softly. “It wasn’t exactly a conversation.”
Tyra leaned against a shelf. “My sister says the best officers are the ones who know when they're not in control of everything. Of everything anymore.”
Helena nodded. “You sister sounds wise.”
Tyra smiled faintly. “She’d say she learned the hard way.”
Helena’s expression softened, “I think most of us do.”
They sat in companionable silence for a few moments. Then Helena tilted her head.
