Right now, French director Luc Besson is working on a continuation of this 80s classic. With the original character's fate sealed, he's picking off with the last scene he cut off early for the original theatrical release, and extends it into a two-hour-personal VR event, AI powered, replacing the original character with the viewers' image. Letting the dolphins take them into a world of magic realism deep into the ocean, with the viewers turning more and more into dolphins themselves. Of course with the original score.
