My mother always had trouble controlling her eating and would sneak into the kitchen at night. When I was very young, she briefly thought she could pass herself off as a ghost in case I woke up and saw her.
She was afraid I would tell my father about the snacking and thought she could dismiss my reports to him as a childish fantasy.
Did your family normally keep a few log slices in the fridge? I never saw the need to refrigerate them since they'd be eaten long before the 'best by' date. But perhaps your mother preferred hers well chilled?
