“Take the Metro to Katonah. I’ll meet you at the station,” Wendy told her. This was just so amazing to Tinkerbell. She was giddy with excitement, and after asking directions from a startled Policeman, she was on the train to Katonah. She dared not fly, not with all those heli things buzzing around and not until she knew the lay of the land.

And so, armed with her silver phone and newfound knowledge, Tinker Bell embarked on her digital adventure, wondering if this modern Neverland held as much magic as the one she left behind

After some two hours, with all the knowledge she needed, and a lovely new silver phone, she went and made her purchase. The girl behind the counter helped Tinkerbell set up several accounts on her phone—the service provider first, of course. Then there was Facebook, Tik Tok, and X. By the time she left the store, she had already gathered quite a few followers. One, in particular, caught her attention, with the profile name on each of those, simply Wendy D. Well, at least she knew where to find her.

After fiddling with her phone for a few minutes outside the store, she connected with her dearest friend. They chatted like any New Yorker would until Wendy gave her directions to the house.

“Okay, Tinker Bell,” Jack said, leaning in as if sharing a secret. “Think of this phone as your very own pixie communicator. It’s like a magic mirror, but with more emojis.”

Tinker Bell blinked, her wings fluttering with anticipation. “Emojis?”

“Yes!” Jack grinned. “Tiny symbols that convey emotions. Like this one.” He tapped the smiley face icon. “It means ‘I’m happy!’”

Tinker Bell squinted at the screen. “But why not just say it?”

Jack chuckled. “Because humans love shortcuts. Now, let’s unlock your phone. Swipe up, like you’re opening a secret door to Neverland.”

Tinker Bell swirled her finger upward, revealing a constellation of apps. “Whoa! So many!”

“Indeed!” Jack pointed. “This one with the X? That is X. Humans argue a lot there. So I wouldn’t bother with that. It’d make your head spin.”

In the store, Tinkerbell was completely taken aback. For long moments, she stood there completely dumbstruck. There was so much choice, and she knew nothing about these devices. So being who she was, with a little, the tiniest sprinkle of dust from her pocket, she only had to wait a few seconds, and three sales assistants were at her side, asking if she needed help. A young man, Jack, was his name, showed her some examples of the latest iPhone. But when Tinker explained her complete unfamiliarity with them, he took her aside and went through it as if he was being a teacher for the day. They used the staff meal room.
