Masterpiece Monday

Suffragist and the first British female teacher of jujutsu and one of the first female martial arts instructors in the western world. At the request of Emmeline Pankhurst, she trained the Bodyguard of the WSPU, the Women's Social and Political Union. The bodyguard protected the suffragettes from the physical and sexual violence they were suffering at the hands of the police and male members of the public, as well as protecting leaders of the suffragette movement from the "Cat and Mouse" legislation.
